The Monstrous Bass
One day about three years ago, I went fishing on a small old farm pond. It was a warm summer evening. It felt good outside so I figured that it would be a perfect day for fishing. The pond had a lot of lily pads all around it. The crickets were chirping. The bullfrogs were croaking. I saw smaller fish feeding on water insects. I decided to use a top water bait. I fished and fished but I didn’t get any bites. Then it started to get dark. I did one last cast before it got dark. When my top water bait landed on the water, I let it sit there for a few seconds. Then I saw a humongous mouth scoop my bait off the surface of the pond! I set the hook, and started reeling in the monstrous fish. I didn’t know what type of fish it was. It was pulling so hard that my rod tip was bending as far as it could possibly bend. My rod was making a crackling noise because the fish was pulling so hard. I was afraid that that my rod would snap right in half. Then the huge fish jumped; it was a bass! The bass was at least 10 feet long. The bass had to be at least 60 pounds. I had finally reeled the bass close enough, to the point where I could get him. Then it took one final jump. The bass jumped way over my head. When the bass hit the water, it made a huge wave. The wave splashed all over me, and I was standing there on the bank drenching wet with my mouth wide open. I watched the biggest bass in the world swim away. I walked all the way home wondering what would have happened if I had caught that bass. To this very day, that same bass is probably still in that same pond, remembering the time he was almost caught.
