  • Bass basics: In this section I will be talking to you about important information to help you become a sucessful bass angler.
  • Let's discuss the different structure where largemouth bass like to hide,or stay near.  Bass love to hide near wood that extends into the water, weeds, and rock piles under the water.  First let's talk about wood.  Bass like wood because it provides shade for them all throughout the day.  It also makes a good place for them to ambush their prey.  Examples of wood structure would be boat docks, logs, stumps, trees, and bushes. Now let's talk about weeds or grassy areas.  Bass like to hide here because this form of structure also provides a lot of shade throughout the day.  When it is cold outside large mouth bass will also come hear because in some cases they can hold heat.  The main reason why bass like to hide here is because the creatures that bass like to eat, enjoy eating off the grass.  So the next time you go fishing, and you see a big clump of grass, try casting your bait there a couple of times.  The last structure I'm going to talk about is rock piles.  This is a big structure to find when bass donot want to bite a bait.  This is also an exellent structure because it holds plenty of heat and the largemouth bass's favorite food lives here.  Can you guess what this is?  If you said the crawfish you are correct.

  • Fishing safety:
  • Before going on a fishing trip you need to make sure are you staying safe.  Watch the news or read the wheather report in the news paper to find out what the wheather might be.  If it is going to be lightening and raining you don't want to go out on the water.  If you are on the water and you see lighting or hear thunder go back inside.  remember that lightening is attracted to water.  If you are fishing on shore, don't stand too close to the water, I learned this by myself, you could possibly fall in.  Stay a few feet away from the water.  If you fish in a boat please don't ever try to go on the water alone.  Always make sure you have a parent or guardian on the water with you.

There are a few things you need to take with you when you are on the water.  ***Life jackets, whistle, paddles, compass, hat, sunscreen insect repellent, two- way radio or cell phone, drinking water, rope, and just in case, a rain coat or poncho, and a multi-tool instrument.

  • Bass facts
  • Did you Know that the large mouth bass is the number one game fish in the U.S.?  The large mouth bass is known for it's large mouth .  They also put up a good fight when you hook them.  You identify the largemouth bass by looking at the stripe that runs down their side.  Another way to identify them is to look at their jaw.  If the jaw extends pass their eye it is a largemouth bass.  This species of fish live in just about all freshwater across the globe.  There is one thing bass love to do, and that is to eat.  Largemouth bass will eat crawfish, minnows, plankton, frogs, snakes, lizards, bluegill or sunfish, and in some cases small birds.
